What is Suvarna Prashan?

Indian culture explains 16 Sanskaras to be done in every human being. These are considered to be beneficial for overall grooming. Lehan Sanskara is one of these sixteen sanskaras mentioned in Shastra. Lehan literally means lickable form of medicine also known as ‘Chatan’. Ayurveda has explained this Suvarna Prashan Samskara as an ideal Lehan for kids.

How is it made?

Suvarna Prashan is prepared out of Desi Gir Cow Ghee fortified with Ayurvedic medicinal herbs like Brahmi, Shankha Pushpi, Vacha, Shatavari, Ashwagandha Guduchi, Sariva, Yashti madhu etc. Finally Swarna Bhasma or medically safe gold ash is added into the mixture and it is triturated thoroughly. At the time of administration honey is added into this mixture. Shree Vyankatesh Ayurved follows traditional formula of Siddha Ghritam (medicated ghee) mentioned in Ayurvedic text like AshtangHridayam and it is prepared in-house under direct observation of experienced Ayurvedic doctors.

What are the benefits of Suvarna Prashan?

सुवर्णप्राशनं हि एतत् मेधाग्नि बल वर्धनम् ।

आयुष्यं मंगलं पुण्यं वृष्यं ग्रहापहम् ॥

– (Kashyapa Samhita)

What is the recommended age?

Earlier the better!! A child with age 0 to 16 years is eligible for Suarna Prashan administration.

When is it done?

Suvarna Prashan is conducted in Shree Vyankatesh Aayurved on Pushya Nakshatra of every month.

Why only Pushya Nakshatra?

Pushya Nakshatra is considered to be an auspicious Nakshatra as per astrology. According to Acharya Sushruta; this is the best time to administer medicines. Brihaspati or God of knowledge is the ruling deity of this Nakshatra and Chandrama is ruling planet. As per astrology this combination enhances the effect of Suvarna Prashan. The same is found to be relevant be many studies conducted across the nation.
